Recipe Creation & Yeast Stock / Management

I’m starting to set up my first set of recipes and I’m a bit confused on how to best manage yeast properly in Breww. Should I be including yeast in each recipe’s fermentation stage or can I include yeast when I start a new batch? Should yeast as a stock item be reserved for only new pitches?

Hi Benjamin, Thanks for your comment! How you manage your yeast in Breww will depend on how you handle yeast day-to-day. If you are regenerating your yeast/pitching it and then cropping it, then it will be best to create a ‘Yeast batch’ for this. Our Yeast/ingredient batch management guide discusses this process further. This will allow you to create a ‘yeast batch’ in which you can then add a yeast ‘stock item’ to the yeast batch; this means that the cost of the yeast stock item can be distributed amongst your batches when pitching your yeast; each generation will be tracked, and extracting yeast from a batch will automatically increase the generation by one.

If your yeast is only being used on a single batch and is not being regenerated, you could choose to simply add an ingredient to the fermentation stage in your recipe; the full cost of the ingredient stock item will then be attributed to the beer batch. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers!
