Deposit schemes for crates

Hey all,

We will soon be moving to returnable bottles. For each bottle we take a deposit of €0,10. The bottles are packaged in a 24 unit generic returnable crate that has a separate deposit calculated (€1,50). In my view the crates are stock items, just like boxes, as we stock them but we do not sell them. They are just used as packaging until they are returned to us or another brewery participating in the system.

For the bottles, setting up the deposit scheme is easy. I cannot find a way to configure deposit for crates however. I would have to add a container type for the crate, but it requires me to put in a taxable amount of beer while the taxes are already calculated on the bottles. Technically the crate doesn’t hold beer, it holds bottles that hold beer.

What is the correct way of dealing with this in the current deposit scheme setup?

Thanks!

Hi Leon, Thanks for your comment! Container deposit schemes in Breww allow you to take deposits based on the ‘container type’; however, it isn’t currently possible to create a deposit scheme for any additional packaging being used, such as a returnable crate. It sounds like this may tie in with the Equipment logging/tracking for hire, rental, loaning, leasing, etc, feature request. I appreciate that this is for something a little different, but the concept seems very similar, which is to have a ‘retunable’/‘tracked’ stock item with the addition of being able to handle deposits on these. It would be great if you could add your comments to this request for the ability to add a deposit scheme to this.

Currently, the only way to handle this would be to add the stock item as a stock item product, which can then be added as a separate line item on an order. Once the crate has been returned, the crate stock item can be returned to stock, and a credit note can be raised to the customer. This would be a little trickier to track, but it is currently the best suited mechanism to handle this. Cheers!
