Would it be possible to have delivery areas link to the delivery charge structure? Instead of looking for a minimum price, or by weight, it would convenient to have delivery costs based on certain locations/areas. Or, function as an additional cost.
For instance, delivering to a nearby location may cost 10£ due to the area, but a larger order may then make it free, whereas a further area may require a larger minimum order to cover the higher delivery charge.

I’m just wondering if this is planned shortly? Our delivery charge also depends on the delivery area, so I currently have no (good) way to force a charge on a customer.
Sorry, no this isn’t currently planned for the short term.
To do this “properly”, we expect to implement a rule system (a bit like Delivery rules) to allow a fallback delivery charge to be used if one isn’t:
We don’t want to “cut corners” with a quick solution based on just delivery areas and then find out that others want different filters for when a charge applies and find ourselves in a position where it’s hard to migrate from the original solution to the better solution.
If anyone else would like to see this, please give this thread a vote and help to move it up the priority list 
I’m pleased to let you know that Delivery Rules can now be used to apply delivery charge structures. 
This is a slightly different approach to what I outlined above, but we feel it is the best solution.
