We are using the Contract Brewing facility to do some of our products, but the products can be brewed both on-site and in the contract facility. Right now, when we are racking cases, the default behavior is to pull cans, lids, labels, and other items as part of the racking process.
However, when those products are brewed at the contract facility, those items are provided by the contract brewer and not by us. When we go to rack, the process fails because there’s no inventory for cans/lids. Even if we remove the cans and lids from the list of stock needed, we can’t move past that step.
To work around this, we can temporarily check the box allowing racking to proceed even if some stock items are short; however, we don’t want to leave this option unchecked because we already have enough problems managing inventory. We also don’t want to have a “fake” list of items that we have to remember to remove from the list of stock prior to completing the racking option. And we don’t want to have two versions of each product with different default components.
The best option from my perspective would be able to somehow tag certain components in the product when it is brewed in a contract setting to not add them to the racking step. The next best would be an option to remove unneeded items and then click “refresh” to check again that the racking process can proceed with the remaining items that ARE required - for example, removing cans and lids, but leaving trays and collars (which are in inventory) and should be depleted. The third (and probably simplest to implement) would just be a warning box that says “there are no enough cans in inventory to proceed; continue to rack anyway?” and allow it to proceed.
I hope you could do the middle option, as that seems to be the one most likely to eliminate user-errors.
