All the settings for rules in price books are designed around including products/container types/tags etc. There is no setting to exclude a specific product. I know you can select all products in the drop down and then de-select, however, this is time inefficient. My brewery make a lot of limited release beers and if I used this setting I would have to manually add every release to every price book every time. I suggest a drop down menu titled “Products (excluding any of the following)” as an option for adding rules to price books. This would mean all new products are automatically added while one or more products can remain excluded.
Thanks for the suggestion, Joe.
Why is it a problem that all products are included in all price books? If you have lots of base price books, a button should be shown that sets the price for all to £0.00 in one click, saving you from having to set a price on each one.
What is your reason for wanting to exclude products from price books - is it just to save time when creating new products (in which case, does this button resolve it for you)?
Hi Luke,
Thanks for getting back to me and massive apologies for taking so long to respond! I didn’t check my “other” inbox until today.
Judging by your question, I think my request is unclearly phrased. I wish to make a rule in a derived price book that includes all but one product but automatically includes new products as they are added to Breww. Does this make more sense?
Thanks Joe, that makes sense. I’m sure it would be possible to update how price book rules are implemented to cover this scenario, but if you wanted one product to have a fixed price (assuming it should be a fixed price), you can just set a price on that item explicitly and this will take precedence over any rules (see Setting explicit prices).
Does this cover what you need, or would you still need the rule that excludes a product?
Thank you Luke! That is the fix I’m using just now as a stop gap but it’s not really a fixed price that I need, more a fixed percentage discount. I would still prefer a rule that excludes a product.
Thanks for the quick reply, Joe. If you need one rule for that product and another rule for all other products, you can add both rules. Just make sure the rule targeting that one product is above the all-products rule in the list (use the “Edit rule order” button).
Each product on a price book can only ever have one rule apply. Breww will check each product to see if it matches a rule by looking through the rules in the order you’ve set. As soon as a rule matches, that rule will apply (and Breww will stop checking other rules).
Does this do what you need?
Sorry for the slow reply - I have actually turned off “sort messages into focussed and other” in outlook because of this.
Luke, that is EXACTLY what I needed to know. I realise now that I could have figured this out for myself by looking more closely. Apologies and thank you for your time!
No problem, and I’m delighted to know this has done the trick for you! Thanks for confirming!
