It would be really nice to have a feature where we could track value/operate in proof gallons. I don’t know if that’s something they use in the UK but in the US it is a gallon of alcohol at 50% and is a conserved measurement that easily allows you to move liquid and value around for accounting purposes. EG. 1 gallon of spirits at 80% alcohol by volume (ABV) is equivalent to 1.6 proof gallons. If you dilute the 1 gallon of 80% spirit to 40% alcohol to create a volume of 2 gallons the conserved measurement is still 1.6 proof gallons.
It would be very helpful to attribute value on a proof gallon basis to the liquid held in a tank at a certain/any ABV.
If this was available in measurement system: gallons, liters, bbl etc that would work.
All US Federal records are held and taxed in proof gallons. It makes it easier to attribute value if for example you have a distillation run and take multiple cuts/segements that are then used to create multiple derivative spirits then you can track the value by a constant. The reason you cannot attribute value by volume is that the proof/abv is not consistent. If the first part of a distillation is 80% and the second at 70%. The first 100 Gallons at 80% would be 160 proof gallons and the second 100 Gallons would be 140 proof gallons. While both have the same volume the quantity of alcohol – the item of value – is different.
If a batch’s value can be tracked using Proof Gallons independently of volume that would be very helpful.

Can you confirm that you would still use Gallons as the volume unit (for vessel capacity, volumes transferred, packaged, etc.)? But you’d also like to be able to record the Proof Gallons at some stages in addition? If so, what stages would you like to record this? Just on transfer between vessels, or at other times too?
Or would you intend to replace Gallons with Proof Gallons as the production unit?

All good. We are also using beer software to handle a secondary operation. However, I’ve been told that you are potentially looking to handle spirits in your software as well and I’ve notice other people are using the software for this as well.

Sorry to be pedantic, but it would be really helpful if you could list the “stages” you’d like. “All” is a really hard thing to implement when there are so many permutations of how different businesses work, so if you can list where you would like to be able to record proof gallons, this will ensure we don’t miss anything that you are specifically looking for.
