Changes in Duty per 01/01

Hi Max,

Thanks for the quick response. Indeed the duty page has changed.

However, the multipack calculation of the amount is off (we do not use singles as main unit in our admin) - please correct asap!

Hi Gijs - we’ve just been looking into this for you, and we’ve managed to replicate what you’ve described! That should be resolved now :ok_hand: Thanks for letting us know.

Hi all!

Don’t know if it’s a bug or if I maybe did something wrong, so I’ll start here and not with a ticket. For us, all the duty rates are that one of the big breweries of € 8,12 instead of the small brewery of € 7,51.

I did fill in the necessary fields and I’m not over the 200.000 hl estimated production.

Is this something others experience as well?

Thanks!

I am getting the correct amount. Did you fill in the correct amount in beer duty settings (niet een punt/komma verkeerd ofzo?)

What I have now found is that if I put anything over 2000 hl in the production of last year, the duty jumps to € 8,12. Even if the estimated number for this year is higher.

I guess @max missed the cut off is 200.000 HL - and not 200.000L

Yep, Gijs you’re right - sorry about that :man_facepalming: that’s also been resolved now!

The form is online!

Obviously (!) they are not doing it per beer or total liters of alcohol, but…per % ABV…

So an additional report combining all the beers of a specific ABV (one decimal) would be great - with Kenmerk maybe the beer names? So we can copy paste all the data

Hi Gijs - thanks for this!

We’ve updated the Excise report now to provide the total hL and excise amount per ABV, and Breww will also display the relevant beer names in a Uw kenmerk column.

The report in Breww rounds the totals based on the examples on page 5 of this document: https://download.belastingdienst.nl/douane/docs/tarievenlijst-accijns-acc0552z92fd.pdf.

So ABV is first truncated to 1 decimal place (“Rond een gedeelte van een volumeprocent alcohol naar beneden af op 1 decimaal”).

Then, for each distinct beer at that ABV, Breww totals the hL, rounds it to 2 decimal places (“Rond hoeveelheden af op 2 cijfers achter de komma”), and multiplies that by the applicable rate to get the excise amount for that beer at the ABV. The rounded hL total and the excise amount for each beer at that ABV are then added up to achieve the total. This rounding method is based on the following part of the document:

Screenshot 2024-01-26 at 11.11.57

In the example, rather than add the hL values together for all beers at 5% and then multiplying that total by the rate, they instead calculate the excise amount per beer at that ABV, before adding together the excise amounts afterwards.

However, if you think this isn’t correct based on any other sources (or we’ve misunderstood this document), please let us know!

Hey,

Is there any difference? You are allowed to add the amounts of the same abv - so the one that is most benificially financially seems to be preferred

Hi Gijs - it was great to meet you recently at CRAFT!

I think you’re right that it won’t make a difference anyway, but I just wanted to match exactly what was described in the document regardless and highlight what we’re doing and why for the sake of transparency.

I hope the first submissions all went well with the new excise duty forms!

Hi Max,

We did our first returns it went well

Some important tidbits:

The returns site rounds all decimal amounts down to full euro amounts. 189.99 becomes 189.
This shaves off a couple of euros from the amount mentioned in Breww

Also: Reclaims are on a quarterly basis from now on and not monthly

Hi Gijs - I’m glad to hear that the first return went well, and thanks for passing on that extra information!

We’ve updated the report now to round the excise amount due per ABV down to the nearest whole number - so the figure you see in Breww should now exactly match the figure calculated by the returns site :+1:

Hi Max, Using the new duty report for NL is going great. I suggest one change- The whole government information packet references Hectoliters, yet, likely just to keep up on our toes, the actual online registration system asks for amounts in Liters. Therefore one has to make a little conversion column in their report if they want to cut and past the values directly. Would it be possible to have the duty report itself output in Liters? Thanks!

Hi Stephen - I’m glad to hear the report has been useful! I agree. I’m surprised they asked for it to be submitted in Litres, given that all the instructions are in Hectolitres - but the report is meant to replicate what you need to submit on the registration system, so we’ve updated it to display the totals in Litres rather than Hectolitres to match :ok_hand: Thanks for letting us know!
