Automatically update planned vessel occupancy when a vessel is emptied

We use the Batch Schedule extensively for production planning and have noticed a workflow issue around vessel occupancy.

Currently, when a vessel is emptied (using the “Empty Vessel” action and recording the loss reason/volume), Breww correctly records the actual vessel usage, but the planned vessel occupancy on the Batch Schedule remains unchanged. This means the schedule can continue to show a vessel as occupied beyond the date it was actually emptied.

For breweries that package over multiple days, the vessel genuinely remains occupied until the final packaging run is complete. However, once the vessel has been emptied and the “Empty Vessel” action has been completed, Breww knows the exact date and time that the vessel became available.

It would be very useful to have either:

  • An option to automatically shorten the planned vessel occupancy to the actual vessel empty date when “Empty Vessel” is completed, or
  • A production setting such as “Use actual vessel dates for Batch Schedule” that keeps the planner aligned with real vessel availability.

At present the workaround is to edit the batch details and manually drag the vessel occupancy bar back to the correct date on the brew schedule.

Benefits:

  • Keeps the Batch Schedule aligned with actual vessel availability.
  • Prevents confusing overlaps between completed batches and future planned batches.
  • Reduces manual schedule maintenance.
  • Improves visibility when planning brews into recently emptied vessels.

Ideally this would be an optional setting so breweries that prefer to retain their original planned occupancy dates for reporting or performance analysis can continue to do so.
