Option to Change BBE for Remaining Stock Only (Without Backdating Shipped Products)

Summary:

When extending a product’s Best Before End (BBE) date, it should be possible to apply the change only to the remaining stock in the batch, rather than updating the entire batch history — including products that have already been shipped to customers.

Current Behaviour:

Currently, when changing a BBE date for a batch, the update is applied to the whole batch, including stock that has already been delivered to customers. This is useful when correcting a mistake, but it causes issues when a BBE extension is needed for remaining stock only.

Problem:

  • When a BBE extension is applied, it backdates the change to already-shipped products, for which there is no tracking of who received the old or new BBE date.

  • This creates confusion as delivery notes already created and sent to customers will show a different BBE date to what was originally communicated.

  • There is no way to distinguish between customers who received stock with the original BBE and those who would receive stock with the extended BBE.

Requested Feature:

Introduce two distinct options when changing a BBE date:

  1. Update entire batch – Apply the BBE change to all stock (existing behaviour, useful for correcting mistakes).

  2. Update remaining stock only – Apply the BBE change only to stock still held, without altering the BBE on any products already shipped or reflected on previously issued delivery notes.

Why This Matters:

  • Maintains the accuracy and integrity of historical delivery notes.

  • Avoids customer confusion when they receive documentation with conflicting BBE dates.

  • Gives breweries greater flexibility and control when managing legitimate BBE extensions.

@luke I noticed you closed Sylwia’s more recent Request, but no one has commented on whether this is being considered.

As Sylwia has stated, by Breww not having this as a standard, it means that we are unable to have full traceability of which products have and which products haven’t had their shelf-life extended because when the BBE is updated on Breww, it automatically updates all orders.

This means if a customer had been sent a product today (23/07/2026) and the physical BBE on that product was 01/01/27 and then we extended the shelf-life of that product by 2 months (01/03/2027), their order on Breww would automatically be changed to the new BBE even though they physically have the stock of the old BBE.

Thanks, Casey. We understand why this is important and thank you for the extra context.

Yes, everything that’s still open on the community is being considered. As we get multiple requests every single day, it’s not feasible for us to reply to each one, but every single one is read and considered.

Duplicate requests just cause confusion, vote sprawl and make it harder for us to manage the huge volume of feature requests that we receive and implement, so duplicate requests will always be closed. That doesn’t mean we’re not going to do it, it just means we don’t want multiple threads asking for the same thing.
