Summary:
When extending a product’s Best Before End (BBE) date, it should be possible to apply the change only to the remaining stock in the batch, rather than updating the entire batch history — including products that have already been shipped to customers.
Current Behaviour:
Currently, when changing a BBE date for a batch, the update is applied to the whole batch, including stock that has already been delivered to customers. This is useful when correcting a mistake, but it causes issues when a BBE extension is needed for remaining stock only.
Problem:
-
When a BBE extension is applied, it backdates the change to already-shipped products, for which there is no tracking of who received the old or new BBE date.
-
This creates confusion as delivery notes already created and sent to customers will show a different BBE date to what was originally communicated.
-
There is no way to distinguish between customers who received stock with the original BBE and those who would receive stock with the extended BBE.
Requested Feature:
Introduce two distinct options when changing a BBE date:
-
Update entire batch – Apply the BBE change to all stock (existing behaviour, useful for correcting mistakes).
-
Update remaining stock only – Apply the BBE change only to stock still held, without altering the BBE on any products already shipped or reflected on previously issued delivery notes.
Why This Matters:
-
Maintains the accuracy and integrity of historical delivery notes.
-
Avoids customer confusion when they receive documentation with conflicting BBE dates.
-
Gives breweries greater flexibility and control when managing legitimate BBE extensions.
