We have just taken over a brewery and all of there recipes and the problem is, they have used Beer Smith to develop the recipes and when we try to export them from Beer smith into Breww, we get an error message saying that the file is not compatible.
I’ve looked on line to confirm whether breww can import from Beer smith and it confirms this, but I’m stumped as to what is going on.
The file that Beer smith is exporting is a .BSXM exentsion.
We have been advised to change the extension to one that Breww knows and this has given the same result as in the file can not be recognised.
If someone could come up with a solution I would appreciate it, as I don’t particularly want to go through the faff of having to type it into Breww again.
You should be able to export from BeerSmith to a “BeerXML” file instead and Breww can import from this file. Unfortunately renaming a .BSMX file to a .xml file doesn’t change the format or how the data in it is structured - it just changes the name.
There’s a conversation here on the BeerSmith website which should explain how to export as BeerXML. We don’t have a copy of BeerSmith to hand to double-check this with, but hopefully this helps you get the right files exported. To save you a click, they said:
Select the recipe (from Local or Cloud Recipes view) and right click then select “Export Selected”. Under file type you can select the “Save as type” on the file selection dialog in windows. On Mac I think it prompts you for which format to use as they don’t have a proper save as file type selection.
I hope this is helpful, but do let us know if we can help any further.
