Monitoring & Logging for Utility Equipment (Water, Cooling, Glycol Systems)

:magnifying_glass_tilted_left: Context

Currently, we take daily readings of:

  • 4x water tanks (raw water, carbon-filtered, RO, and hot liquor tank)
  • RO filtration status, TDS, pH and overal running
  • Glycol system (glycol tank and activity of the pump)
  • Cold room and malt room environment

These are critical for QA and planning, but Breww doesn’t yet support a clean way to log, track, and graph utility equipment like these.

:white_check_mark: What We Need

We’d like a new “Utility Equipment” or “Support Systems” module, or enhanced options in the existing “Vessel visualisation”.

1. Add Non-Fermentation Vessels & Zones

Allow setup of vessels or zones like:

  • Water tanks (raw, carbon, RO, HLT), Chillers, glycol tank, Cold room / Malt room, Water treatment skid / CIP tank

2. Custom Parameters Per Equipment

Let users choose what parameters apply per equipment type:

  • Water tanks: volume, real temp, set temp, pH, TDS, pressure (optional)
  • RO filter stages: inlet/outlet pressure, flow rate, TDS
  • Glycol tank: temp, level, flow rate
  • Cold room/malt room: ambient temp, humidity
  • Other tools: energy usage, valve state, etc.

:white_check_mark: Bonus: Allow linking sensor feeds via API (e.g. RAPT, ESP32, and other (API) integrations)

3. Readings & Graphs

  • Support daily manual or automated readings
  • Display in trend graphs (e.g., last 7 days of tank volume + pH)
  • Show inline on the secific equipment dashboards (same like fermentation readings on batch)

:counterclockwise_arrows_button: What We’ve Tried in Breww So Far (and Why It Doesn’t Work)

  • Reusing fermentation vessels (e.g. RO tank as vessel): works for temp/pH, but forces irrelevant inputs like pressure (* Compulsory in our setup).
  • Cleaning & Maintenance tasks: can log tasks but offers no usable reporting/graphing. Also very manual input of data, 1 by 1, which makes it very slow.
  • No way to log and visualize flow rate or filter effectiveness over time.
  • Coldroom/moisture/temp readings are not attachable to any equipment object.

:puzzle_piece: Summary of Benefits

  • Centralizes critical facility and QA data
  • Keeps brewing + utilities in one operational view
  • Enables proactive maintenance (e.g., preempt filter changes from TDS spikes)
  • Improves historical tracking (e.g., rain events vs. input water quality)

:pencil: Suggested Interface Changes

  • “Utility Equipment” tab under Vessels
  • “Add Parameter” section with custom field types (number, unit, etc.)
  • Filterable, multi-line graph viewer with date range selector
  • Task/reminder integration (e.g., “Check glycol tank level daily @ 08:00”)
