Improvements to Planned packaging and delayed racking release stock control (allow overselling if stock will be available in time)

We’ve managed to oversell two products this week and wonder if we’re hitting the same thing. I have a live example of it now if you need one (product correctly shows 3 of 6 from planned packaging sold but order view shows all 6 available to place on order).

We’ve resolved a few issues with this feature since launch. Apologies for the hassle they have caused.

This was an extremely complex feature, and different account settings for options such as which stock levels are used (theoretical max vs the in-format available quantity) and rules around sites and movement of stock between them, have mostly been the cause.

It’s best to keep the examples in the tickets so we can access specifics on your accounts, as the issues have mostly been related to different combinations of settings. Thanks, and apologies for the teething issues on this. We’ll look at what went wrong in the testing here to make sure we do better in the future.

Hi Andy, sounds like you’ve had a similar issue to us. We also oversold a couple of beers this week, which turns out to have been caused by this update. They said they’d fixed it now, but I guess not in your case yet. They thought that different account settings were causing problems, which sounds like they didn’t test it fully before putting it live. Again.

Bob, the issue you are referring to is different to Andy’s, although both are related to this new feature. Again, I’m sorry this hasn’t been as smooth as our updates normally are.

This was particularly complex to test. We have many different test scenarios in place for this feature, and with each issue brought to our attention, we’re adding to them. For this particular feature, the concept of “test it fully before putting it live” is akin to how long a piece of string is.

Sadly, despite our best efforts, a few teething issues did slip through the net with this feature. We do our best to ensure this doesn’t happen with all updates we release, but the reality is that we’re human, and we will sometimes make mistakes.

Issues will inevitably slip through the net from time to time. All we can do is hold our hands up and ensure we get things fixed promptly.

Finally, I’m happy to confirm that there are no known outstanding issues with this feature. If anybody sees anything that they’re not sure is correct, please let us know (with full details on the product/situation) in a support ticket and we will look into it urgently for you.
