Improve stock take to allow a web (non-Excel/CSV) based solution

Currently, the stock take “system” involves downloading a CSV file, changing values on this (or adding new lines) as required, then uploading the amended file.

Other softwares provide an actual interface for stocktaking.

Would be good for Breww to provide something like this.

Thanks, Jon, we completely agree this would be a big improvement.

We’ve been planning something like this for a while, so it’s great that you’ve put it forward here on the community so it can gain some votes :+1:

Very good.

Any updates on this?
Having a mobile app for cycle counting/stocktake is pretty fundamental nowadays, and you can’t preform wall-to-wall breww counts on a mobile/tablet.

There’s no update to report on this yet. We’re working hard to improve Breww all the time, but with multiple requests coming in every day, it takes quite a bit of keeping up with!

If you haven’t already, please vote for this request, as this will help push it up the priory list too - use the button in the top-left (you may need to scroll to the top of the page).

We will always post an update on the thread if there’s been any news, so keep an eye on the thread for updates. You can also make sure you’re subscribed to notifications by using the :bell: button on the right of the thread.

For more information on how feature requests work and for help on voting and subscribing to updates, please see this guide:

Cheers!

One thing that would be nice in the interim would be to make it so that the CSV or Excel file is downloadable on mobile. Currently, on both android and iOS, it opens the file in a document viewer and there is no way to edit the content of the file, making a stock take impossible without a desktop computer.

If there is a way to do this that I am missing, please let me know! Cheers.

Thanks, Ben.

Unfortunately, this isn’t a “quick fix” on our mobile app, so it’s not something I expect we would consider doing as an interim workaround, sorry. Especially given, we’re really keen to get to the “proper” feature here.

However, if you use Breww in your device’s native web browser (rather than our app), you should be able to save the CSV file and edit it in a suitable spreadsheet editing app. Can you give this a try and let us know how you get on? Thanks.

Thanks, Luke! Much appreciated, and I know it’s not a simple fix. I hadn’t considered using the website version of Breww, and that immediately solved my issue in the interim. Thank you for being such a responsive company!

Good Afternoon,

It would be useful to be able to run stock takes for locations, this would allow managers to be able to keep an eye on the stock of their department better with out seeing all the other departments stock.

Having the ability to cycle count (as mentioned already) via the APP would be a great addition. Just being able to perform a stock take on any given item would be a huge plus.

Hey Lee, I’m sure you’ve figured out that you can do a stock adjustment for a single product via (Actions menu on) the product screen. I’ve tended to do a partial stock take starting from Products available and then onto the particular product. Would be better if there was a proper interface for this…

Hi there, yes, all good with stock adjustment, but thinking of a more official way of deducting stock. In a previous job, we would do cyclic counting and you could do none, one or 100 a day, whatever took your fancy but in an official way.

Hi Breww,
Wondering if there has been any movement on this at all?
Thank you

I’m sorry, but there’s no update to report on this yet. We’ve been busy working on other requests, but do hope to get to this in the future. Please make sure you have voted for it (if you haven’t already).

Please see How do I know if there’s been an update on a feature request?

Thank you

Any updates on this?

I’m afraid not, but we will get to it when we can. Please see How do I know if there’s been an update on a feature request?

This has got to be one of the most confusing and non-workable stocktake systems in any software product that I have ever seen. I’m just lucky I am only counting around 55 lines each time, not sure how some others are doing this dilligently at month end with much more than that.

I understand the voting system is generally how you place importance on feature requests as a whole, but Breww is fundamentally a stock control system, and a decent and easy to use stocktake function should be, and necessitate, a viable and easily functioning stocktake system gets a bit more priority love no?

There’s so many caveats, and the guide isn’t really fleshed out to include all the information one may have…

For example:
This means that the process is as follows. For each row:

  • if the quantity is correct, leave it touched

  • if the quantity is lower, update the quantity column

  • if the quantity is higher, create a new line underneath and put the additional quantity in the quantity column. If it has a non-returnable number, remove it from this new line, and we’ll provide you with a new one at the end. (Note: If you have chosen to Group non-returnable containers you can simply increase the quantity column for non-returnables)

  • if the location is incorrect, reduce the quantity on the existing line, and create a new line with the correct location and quantity in that location (or if it has all moved, simply update the location and site on the row).

  • if the stock you have doesn’t appear, add a line - filling all applicable columns, but always leaving Non-returnable number blank.

  • When creating a new line, do we only need to include the quantity of the item in the quantity column, or all other identifying details, or is the CSV just reading the next line as a data entry point? This adding of new lines makes it fraught with easy mistakes as the page gets more confusing with lines being added and quantities changed, only when higher.
  • What if the stock used to appear on my end but is just zero count or for whatever reason, not on the list, how does it match it up, and then what is the after effects? Do I need to go and relink batch numbers to be able to process sales etc?

I understand wholly how difficult stocktaking is (and to design it on the back end having worked in POS for 14 years), but can maybe the UG be updated at least to explain things a bit mroe clearly?

It could just be from ym inexperience in using this system and doing my first stocktake in Breww that I am missing some easy things. That and that we’ve been trading for a few months without anyone doing one. But, geez, I hope the future feature is a much easier to use system. Cheers guys, not having a dig, just adding to the chorus.

It would also be useful to scan barcodes (cask or kegs) on particular stock lines and compare with codes logged in Breww if there are any discrepancies. In that way the correct cask/keg number can be reduced/increased in stock on Breww.

Would this be something that’d be automatable through the Breww API? That would be a great first deliverable, as that’d allow customers to build their own (e.g. low-code) flows for stocktaking. We’d make the accountant really happy with that.

I suspect not. The api doesn’t seem to afford the POST(?) endpoints this would likely require.
