Invoicing & purchasing in multiple different currencies, not just account's main currency

We have started brewing in Europe (contracting certain batches) and are selling this directly to EU countries in Euros. Is there a way I can invoice certain customers in Euros? The vast majority of our sales are still in GBP as our main operation is based in the UK, but our export is conducted in Euros.

Thanks for the question, Dan. It’s not possible currently to use more than one currency on a single Breww account, I’m afraid. This would be a great improvement and we’d love to add support for this in the future, so I’ve moved this to our feature request area, so we can track this through to implementation for you :+1:

(Breww can handle accounts in many currencies, including Euros, but all transactions must be in the same “base currency” at the moment.)

If anyone else would find this, useful, please give this a vote using the button in the top-left.

In the meantime, I’d suggest processing these invoices in Breww using the GBP amounts (all sales will need a GBP value too for reporting VAT to HMRC). You can prevent the emailing of invoices to these customers (so they never see the GBP invoice) by updating the option shown below when editing the customer.

You should be able to generate a EUR invoice through your accounting software (or in a word processing package) to give to your customer.

I hope this works for you until we have full support for multi-currency in Breww, but please do let me know if you have any questions. Alternatively, if there is no shared stock, etc between the two, you could have two Breww accounts, one in GBP and one in EUR. It’s possible for your team members to have access to both on a single login and easily switch which account they’re using.

I second this, we have started taking SEPA payments and this needs to be in EUR. Currently I have to log into the our accounting software and manually change all the prices to euros. Then when the payment comes in it doesn’t exactly match the invoice in Breww due to exchange rates so have to create credit notes to offset it.

This would be very useful for us too. We are a Bulgarian brewery and would love to be able to send invoices and price lists using EUR.

Thanks, Jayne. Please make sure you vote for this thread if you’d like us to push this up the priority list :+1:

I’d recommend reading the guide at 💡 Posting ideas & feature requests for Breww 💙 for more on how we prioritise feature requests.

Hey Luke, do you guys have any plans to offer multiple currency handling in the next six months or so? We can help provide some specifics on what might be needed, if it’s something you intend to implement.
As a Canadian brewery we have lots of experience dealing with two currencies at once, especially on the purchasing side (much less on the selling side).
Xero, which we use for our accountancy software, does handle multi-currency very well. I’d assume other popular platforms like QBO would have similar capabilities. The integration piece seems pretty important for a multi-currency upgrade.
Please let me know… thanks!

We don’t typically plan quite that far ahead other than for a handful of major initiatives, so I can’t really say either way at this stage, sorry.

We appreciate the offer of help and may well be in touch at the appropriate time. We also buy many of our services in other currencies (GBP is our primary business currency, but we buy cloud computing services in both USD and EUR, for example). We also accept Breww subscriptions paid for in five currencies, so fortunately, we do also have some experience with how this works (and how it can be integrated with platforms like Xero, as that’s what we use for our own accounts). Cheers.

Thanks Matt,
You probably are aware of it already… but just in case you’re not, I’ll explain the specific problems we experience due to lack of currency handling:
When we enter a PO for ingredients from the US, we have a choice: we can either enter the order in CAD or in USD. Each of these options is not ideal

  • If we enter the order in CAD, we can’t send the PO to the supplier, because it is not accurate (they expect orders in USD, and expect to be paid the quoted USD amount, not the CAD equivalent after exchange). Also, the PO in Breww doesn’t match any real life quote received from a vendor.
  • If we enter the order in USD, our inventory valuation becomes meaningless, because we are using mixed currencies within the same system, with no provision to normalize the data. While this would let us send PO’s to vendors, it would be impossible to do it this way, because of that.

So we have to put orders into Breww as CAD. This causes extra work on both the Xero side and on the Breww side, for performing exchange calculations, both during the ordering and payment processes.
Does this make sense?
Currency handling would be extremely helpful for us, and I feel it would probably be so for others as well.
I do understand you all have lots on your plate though - just putting this out there.
Thanks,
Dave

Thanks, Dave, yes that all makes sense.

We purchase our main hop contract in euros - I believe we can make it work with accounts running the difference but clearly would be better if there wasnt a disconnect

This would be really helpful… all our export is in USD while our main business is in our local currency. As of now, we don’t have any solution on how we will proceed with this.

Can we please get a timescale for this? It would be super useful for us receiving Euro invoices to our DKK account.

I’m sorry, but I don’t have a timescale that I can share for this.

I can see that you’ve voted for it, which is the most important way to show your support. For more information on how we manage feature requests, please see 💡 Posting ideas & feature requests for Breww 💙.
