How to correct an incorrectly set up product

If a product has been incorrectly set up, it is likely possible to correct the mistake by heading to the product, selecting ActionsEdit and making the changes. You will find it is possible to change most details at any time, but the component packaged beer and container type are locked once the product has been “used” (racked, sold, or stock adjusted), and you will need to obsolete the product and recreate it.

Making changes to the component packaged beer where the product has not been “used.”

If you have caught the error in product setup prior to racking, selling, or stock adjusting a product, you can simply head to the product page, select ActionsEdit, click on the Component packaged beers tab and you can change the beer, container type and quantity assigned to the product. Once you are happy with the changes made, select Update component packaged beers to save your edit.

What to do if the product has already been used

If the product has been racked, sold, or stock adjusted, you will not be able to edit the component packaged beer, and you will receive some variation of the error message below, warning that the product can no longer be edited.

If you receive this message, you will need to obsolete this product and create a new, correct product, but there are some shortcuts to make this quick and easy:

  1. If you intend to use the same product SKU and Product name for your new product, you will want to head to the original (incorrect) product, select ActionsEdit, and on the basic details tab, edit the Name and SKU (you may simply want to add something simple like “obsolete” to the end of the existing SKU and Name; doing so will mean you can use both the original name and SKU for your new product.) Once this is done, save those changes and return to the product screen.

  2. From the product screen, you will now want to selectActionsDuplicate.

  3. The Duplicate product window will open, and from here, you can quickly recreate the product with all the details copied over. You will want to delete the (obsolete) part of the Code and Name and then select Obsolete the original product to quickly simultaneously obsolete the incorrect product.

  4. Lastly, you will want to correct the component packaged beer assigned to the new product, which can now be done following the steps outlined in the above section on Making changes to the component packaged beer where the product has not been “used”.
