Low Fill Cans on Canning Day / Best Practices?

I’m curious how others are handling partially filled cans from their canning runs? I see a couple possible angles of tackling this.

  1. Create Low Fill Cans as a part-filled product
  • I think we would just estimate they are mostly full to account for lost volume as our canning line is pretty precise
  1. Attribute equivalent total volume of low fills to loss and enter cans + lids to the stock items upon completing the packaging of saleable cans

Just curious how other breweries are handling within Breww. The benefit of option 1) seems to be that we could track inventory of the low fills and set up that product as unsellable.

flow meter at the tank. That minus volume produced gave us losses. (Includes low fills / other rejects)

Thanks. That makes sense. I guess I meant in terms of tracking in Breww. Are you simply logging at loss and then adding additional stock items to the final packaging log to account any lids or cans lost to low fills?

The other option I had come up with is creating a “12oz Can (Low Fill)” product that is marked as specifically not for sale that would automatically track the volume of each low fill can and use stock items accordingly as well. Downside there would be periodically purging our inventory of low fills in Breww I suppose.

Yes, the count on the canner told us how many cans + lids consumed (pretty much). We’d just put that number on the packaging. Producing a never sold low fill product isn’t a bad idea.
