Label printing — our recommendations (and call for your input!)

We currently recommend the Zebra PolyPro 3000T (3011159) label with the Zebra ZD421t (thermal-transfer) printer and Zebra 5095 resin ribbon for permanent keg/cask IDs (see our full guide).

You’ll need one per container you own, and may need to replace them occasionally if they get damaged — but we’d love to know how they’re working for you in the real world.

Z-Ultimate 3000T Polyester labels

These labels are compatible with the Zebra ZD421t (thermal-transfer) printer using thr same Zebra 5095 resin ribbon as we currently recommend

Z-Supreme 4000T Polymide labels

These labels are designed to be extremely durable, but the labels themselves are pricier, and whilst ompatible with the Zebra ZD421t (thermal-transfer) they require the Zebra 5100 Premium Resin ribbon which is considerably more expensive.

:warning: Cost note: 5100 resin rolls are significantly more expensive than 5095 — so we only suggest considering this option if other labels are failing in your cleaning process.

We have been using the PolyPro 3000T labels as recommended and have had mixed results depending on the type of container they are stuck to. For our stainless steel kegs the results have been good, they appear durable (surviving multiple washings, handling and cold storage). However they do not perform well on our plastic 9 gallon casks, we are having to replace them often as they don’t adhere well enough to survive being washed. This could be partly down to the anatomy of the unit itself, the steel kegs have an overhang on the chimb which protects the label, on the cask it is more open. Also the steel itself is a smooth surface to adhere to whereas the plastic casks are slightly textured.

If anyone has any samples of the Z-Ultimate 3000T labels we could trial that would be great as it only seems possible to buy them in bulk.
