ABV Calculation Accuracy

Hello, just curious what the formula is to calculate ABV as it appears on the Production page and if anyone can verify their accuracy.

The numbers Breww reports are slightly different than we are currently calculating and we don’t have an Alcolyzer to verify.

Cheers

Hi Ryan, Thanks for your comment, and welcome to the community! ABV calculations in Breww are calculated in SG; if you are using Plato, we save the reading in Plato, convert it to SG and then calculate the ABV. This is discussed further in section 11.8 of this HMRC guide. Let me know if you need anything else. Cheers!

My question, and from what i can see the question from OP is what formula is used. Is seems that it is not the “ABV = (og – fg) * 131.25” (AKA Papazian) nor ABV =(76.08 * (og-fg) / (1.775-og)) * (fg / 0.794) (AKA *Daniels). *
So what is the actual formula in Breww?

Hi Jan, Thanks for your message, and welcome to the community. The calculation we use is based on the document linked above; this is: (original gravity – present gravity) × factor = ABV. Let me know if you need anything else. Cheers!
